Last week we talked about the lackluster CD sales in the country music industry as of late – we were anxious to see this weeks numbers since country music superstar Kenny Chesney released his new CD, “Lucky Old Sun.” We were thinking (and hoping!) that this release would see a big jump in CD sales. Not so much.
The numbers were released yesterday and Kenny’s new album sold over 176,400 copies – in comparison to other releases as of late, that is a fabulous number – compared to Kenny’s normal numbers, again, not so much. Kenny’s last studio album, “Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates” sold roughly 375,000 copies in it’s first week of sales. It’s fair to note that this was the “deluxe version” of the CD and the “standard version” was released this week – maybe some didn’t want the deluxe version and were waiting for the standard version? Another great accomplishment to note is that not only does this CD top the Billboard country charts at No. 1, it also tops the overall Billboard 200 charts at No. 1 as well – so that is fantastic news for country music fans.
But as far as the overall numbers are concerned, what’s the deal? Kenny is still selling over 1,000,000 concert tickets every year, so it’s safe to say that people are still VERY interested in him. Respectively, Billy Currington‘s CD was also released last week and sold 25,000 copies. Little Big Town also had a re-release of their CD but we weren’t able to even find those numbers – we’re hoping that they had a fabulous week in sales.
We want to hear from you – what (if anything) is holding you back from buying CD’s now? Strapped for cash in this bad economy? Too easy for your friends to send you the music online once they’ve uploaded the CD? Tell us – we want to know how and why people’s spending habits for their music are changing.

I ALWAYS buy a few copies of every cd Kenny releases on the 1st day it comes out. I figure a hard copy is a great keepsake for later on down the road. It’s easy to buy it online or however a person does it online, but when I’m listen to my Kenny in the truck I HAVE to have the WHOLE album lol.
With that being said, now days I usually just purchase my music online. Like if I love just some of the songs, I dont wanna purchase the entire album cause there is always that chance of the other songs never growing on me. IMO purchasing online is almost better than purchasing the album, besides having a hard copy for keepsake. Although there are very few artists whose entire album I don’t like. COUNTRY ROCKS! :D

Of course I had to get Kenny’s new Deluxe CD last Tuesday. The biggest problem is we live in pretty rural area, and the only store that sells CDs DIDN’T EVEN GET ANY! What the heck is up with that? So we had to drive 80 miles round trip to Target so I could get the CD. I think that hurt a lot of sales, because there are a lot of fans in this area. When the store does finally get them the sales will probably go up some more.

If I don’t really care for the person’s music, I don’t buy the cd. And I’m getting very picky with whose music I like with the way SOME “country” music is going.
