Billy Currington Went South To Record New Album

While recording his upcoming album, Enjoy Yourself, Billy Currington was able to take his own advice and enjoyed himself while working as he went down to the Florida Keys to record part of the album at Jimmy Buffett’s Shrimpboat Sounds studios.

“It was a blessing,” Billy says of recording in the Keys. ”The tropics work for me personally. It lays me back [and] when I get in that spot, it’s really the best time to work. I would go from the beach straight to the studio and the back to the beach. It was something I’ve never done before. I was late all the time. [Well], not all the time, but it’s definitely hard to get me off the beach.”

Billy’s hard work will pay off when Enjoy Yourself is released on September 21.

Billy Currington To Release 4th Album, ‘Enjoy Yourself,’ On September 21

Billy Currington is set to release his fourth album on September 21. The album is entitled Enjoy Yourself, and includes Currington’s Top 5 smash hit “Pretty Good At Drinkin’ Beer” written by Troy Jones. The album, which features the Georgia native’s trademark mix of country, R&B and beach music, is produced by Currington and Carson Chamberlain.

“It’s a great mix. It reflects who I am,” Currington says about the collection of 10 songs. “I’m definitely not just one thing. I’m the beach guy, I’m the country guy, I love my dirt roads and fishin’, but I love New York City and L.A. and Miami, too.”

Billboard claims first single “Pretty Good At Drinkin’ Beer” “is the kind of ditty worth spinning on loop. Currington is pretty good at more than just knocking back a few cold ones and this lead single sounds like a sure thing.”

The album features Nashville’s top songwriters, including Dave Barnes, Shawn Camp, Scotty Emerick, Jones and Mark Nesler.

“This record was about recording songwriter’s songs,” says Billy. “I could have gone back and recorded a bunch of mine that I’ve written, but there were a lot of writers I wanted to record, like Shawn and Troy. I had to put their songs on this album.”

Be sure to add this to your list of must-have albums being released this fall.

Line-up Announced For “CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night To Rock”

Summer gets even hotter when “CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock” airs Wednesday, Sept. 1 (8:00-11:00 PM/ET) on the ABC Television Network. Singer, songwriter, actor, and 11-time CMA Award winner Tim McGraw serves as host for the annual celebration of America’s music.

The special features performances by Jason Aldean, Billy Currington, Alan Jackson, Kid Rock, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride, Reba McEntire, McGraw, Justin Moore, Brad Paisley, Kellie Pickler, Rascal Flatts, Darius Rucker, Blake Shelton with Trace Adkins, Josh Turner, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, and Zac Brown Band filmed in front of a sold-out audience in June during CMA Music Festival in Nashville at LP Field, home of the NFL’s Tennessee Titans.

One highlight of the show is a special performance by reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year Taylor Swift, who premiered her just-released new single “Mine” for her fans at a top-secret private event in Nashville during CMA Music Festival. The song is the first single from her upcoming album Speak Now, in stores Oct. 25.

Viewers will also enjoy two collaborative performances filmed at Fuel Bar & Nightclub in Downtown Nashville in front of a jam-packed crowd of Festival attendees. First, Dierks Bentley and Jamey Johnson join Lambert to sing “Bad Angel,” a track from Bentley’s current CD, Up on the Ridge. Later, Uncle Kracker and Kid Rock perform “Good To Be Me,” featured on Uncle Kracker’s recently released CD, Happy Hour: The South River Road Sessions.

Offering an insider’s glimpse at the Festival, Lady Antebellum allowed cameras to follow them for a day at the event. Viewers will see the reigning CMA Vocal Group of the Year perform at their fan club party, interact with Festival attendees during an unplanned appearance in the Fan Fair Exhibit Hall, and more.

Humorous segments involving several of the participating artists, surprise guests, and more will be featured in the special as well.

This year, CMA Music Festival served as the Grand Re-Opening of Nashville, after the city and surrounding areas experienced a devastating flood in May. The flood, the recovery efforts, and the coming together of the Nashville community to help its fellow citizens will be spotlighted in the television special. CMA is donating 50 percent of this year’s net proceeds from the Festival to the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee for flood relief. As always, the other 50 percent of net proceeds will be donated to the Nashville Alliance for Public Education through CMA’s Keep the Music Playing program to purchase instruments and supplies for music education in Metro Nashville Public Schools.

The annual CMA Music Festival is unlike any other, with four days filled with more than one hundred hours of live music, 30 hours of autograph signings by Country Music’s biggest names and up and comers, hundreds of  artists and celebrities, and a party list of thousands of avid fans. This is the sixth time ABC will broadcast this special – which invites the whole country to America’s biggest Country Music bash – since the original Fan Fair was launched in 1972. This year an average of 65,000 fans from every state and 26 foreign countries attended each day of CMA Music Festival, its biggest turnout yet.

Carrie Underwood Considers Acoustic Tour For 2011

Carrie Underwood revealed to The Boot that she’s considering an acoustic tour for 2011.  Although she loves entertaining crowds with a high-energy tour, bringing it back to the basics is something she’s looking forward to as well.

“I might follow [the September tour] next year with an acoustic tour. That would be just about my favorite thing,” Carrie says.  “There’s so many moments in the show right now that I absolutely love, [and] I’ve never done before. They’re so exciting because they’re so new for me, but my love is singing, and I could stand in front of a microphone and just do that all day long and be so happy with that,” she adds.

Meanwhile, for the remainder of this year’s “Play On” tour, Carrie will hit the road with Sons of Sylvia and Billy Currington.

Carrie Underwood Wraps First Leg Of “Play On” Tour

Two-time reigning Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year Carrie Underwood wrapped the first leg of her “Play On Tour” this past weekend in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada performing for nearly 400,000 fans since the launch on March 11. Underwood nearly sold out all 54 shows throughout North America, bringing along special guests Craig Morgan and Sons of Sylvia. The “Play On Tour” will continue this fall with shows launching September 25 in Portland, Oregon.

Underwood’s critical acclaim continues with high praise descriptions about her vocal prowess and the entire production on the “Play On Tour,” creating a spectacular show for Underwood’s fans all over the U.S. and Canada. Nashville’s Music Row Magazine stated, (the tour) “presents an artist who has grown into her superstar role, and arrives well-armed with a versatile ‘book’ of material with which to showcase her ample vocal talents…the set and costumes designed by Michael Cotten and Soyon An are a monument to the contrast between simplicity and infinite variation.”

The Ottawa Sun, said “Everything about Underwood’s new show seemed a lot bigger, from the stunning staging that looked like she’d plucked it off a movie set. It seems that just about every song had a visual storyline that Underwood carefully played out.”

“The Play On Tour spared no expense, with hi-def screens, dazzling effects and rapid-fire costume changes, from the black tux to the Oklahoma denim to the satin dress, and everything between,” shared the Pittsburgh-Post Gazette.

The Grand Rapids Press said, “Plain and simple, Carrie Underwood is one of the finest singers in any genre, and she demonstrated her immense vocal talent many times.” “Her most impressive instrument is her voice,” commented the Toledo Blade, and the Sacramento Bee exclaimed, “the key to her success: that amazing voice.” The Lexington Herald Leader noted, “Underwood herself proved a dynamic and tireless vocal artist.” CMT.com expressed, “She’s blessed with a strong soprano that makes even the hardest songs to sing live appear like it’s no big deal. The primary reason to catch this tour is because Underwood is one of the most potent vocalists in country music.”

Underwood will perform a handful of fairs and festival dates this summer and will resume the “Play On Tour,” hydrated by vitamin water® and Presented AEG Live, this fall launching September 25 in Portland, Oregon with special guests Billy Currington and Sons of Sylvia. During the fall leg of the tour, Underwood will donate 36 cents of every ticket sold to Save the Children’s United States Programs. This initiative was inspired by the “36 cents” written in the lyrics of her album track “Change,” which addresses how even the smallest bit of spare change that one might have can add up to make a difference and help “change” the world.

Underwood will perform over 100 shows throughout the U.S. and Canada by the end of 2010. Click HERE for a full, up-to-date list of her tour dates.
