Billy Currington Back At No. 1

March 8th, 2010

Billy Currington is back at the top of the country singles charts with his latest hit, “That’s How Country Boys Roll.”  Although this is his fifth No. 1 single, this one is extra sweet for Currington as it marks his first No. 1 as a songwriter, having co-written the song with Brett James and Dallas Davidson.

“This song would’ve never been written if Brett, Dallas and I had kept our promise to not work on a guy’s trip to Key West,” laughs Currington. “But we got the groove with the title and it just started flowing. Thank you to radio, Universal, the songwriters and the fans! I’m very blessed to have another #1 single.”

Currington’s previous #1 single “People Are Crazy” will vie for Single of the Year and Song of the Year at the Academy of Country Music awards ceremony scheduled for April 18 in Las Vegas.

More Stars Added To CMA Music Festival

March 4th, 2010

Billy Currington, Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw and Kellie Pickler are the latest artists to be confirmed for the annual CMA Music Festival in Nashville.  This year’s festival will take place June 10 – 13 in Music City.

Tim’s last appearance at the festival was in 2001 when he was a surprise special guest during Kenny Chesney’s set during the nightly show.  Prior to that, Tim’s last announced performance was in 2000 when the festival was still known as Fan Fair.  The CMA is proud to welcome Tim back as part of the festival this year. “We are thrilled to welcome Tim back to CMA Music Festival in 2010,” said Steve Moore, CMA Board Chairman. “Our event established its tradition of hosting the superstars of our format at its inception in 1972 with artists such as Waylon Jennings, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, and Tammy Wynette. Take a glance at this year’s performer list and you’ll see we’re living up to that tradition.”

Jackson has perhaps been the most supportive superstar of the festival over the years, making 15 appearances at the event since his debut there in 1990.  “We appreciate the tremendous support that Alan has always shown to CMA Music Festival and the fans,” said Moore.

The artists participate for free, and in appreciation, CMA donates half the net proceeds of the Festival to support music education in Metro Nashville Public Schools through the Keep the Music Playing program. To date, $3.3 million has been donated to purchase musical instruments and supplies, providing thousands of Metro Nashville Public Schools students with the resources and opportunities they could not have afforded on their own, and giving many of them a strong reason to remain in school.

1. “Toes” – Zac Brown Band
2. “Boots On” – Randy Houser
3. “She’s Country” – Jason Aldean
4. “Cowboy Cassanova” – Carrie Underwood
5. “Wild At Heart” – Gloriana
6. “Honky Tonk Stomp” – Brooks & Dunn
7. “People Are Crazy” – Billy Currington
8. “I Want A Cowboy” – Reba McEntire
9. “Cheater Cheater” – Joey & Rory

“Out of all the songs on Club Connection’s Top Ten List, we play just about every single one of them on a daily basis,” says DJ Sully, a DJ at Cadillac Ranch in Southington, Conn.  “Many of our dancers strongly push what they like, and I make sure they get what they want.  These songs definitely keep our customers coming back week after week.”

Luke Bryan Talks About His First No.1

December 28th, 2009

Luke Bryan

Luke Bryan recently scored his very first No.1 single with his hit “Do I,” but it’s not the first time he’s topped the charts. Luke co-wrote Billy Currington’s “Good Directions,” which hit No.1 back in 2006.

Luke recently talked with The Tennessean about having his first, (or second) No.1 song.

“The fact I finally made it is the fun part,” he told The Tennessean as he drove to a holiday family gathering in Georgia. “It’s been so exciting, and a little bit of the pressure is off now. I’ve had Top 10s and a Top 5, but I really felt like ‘Do I’ was really worthy of No. 1. It’s kind of the best Christmas present you could get.”

Luke’s new single, “Rain Is A Good Thing” is now at country radio.

Stars React To Grammy Nominations

December 5th, 2009

Kenny Chesney performs at the 2009 Grammy Awards

“I knew there was something special about this song ["People Are Crazy"] the second I heard it. You know, it just had such a special feel and what a great story. I’m so glad that the Recording Academy heard what I did. This is such an honor to be nominated with two amazing songwriters like Bobby Braddock and Troy Jones.” ~ Billy Currington

“It’s amazing to me that a song that didn’t even hit the Top 20 is nominated for a Grammy. Maybe people really do appreciate music that is raw and real. ‘High Cost of Living’ is about as real as it gets.” ~ Jamey Johnson

“I’m so excited to have three Grammy nominations. My career has been full of surprises and here is another. What an honor! I’m in Vegas right now so there will be celebration.” ~ George Strait

“I’m very proud to work with Tony Brown, Chuck Ainlay, Waylon Payne and all the musicians that played on Call Me Crazy. I’m especially honored to have these nominations as they are voted on by peers and in a time where so much great music is being made. It’s nice to know that what we’re doing is relevant.” ~ Lee Ann Womack

“Some things are just magic and you know it.  I knew the first time I heard Mac sing [‘Down The Road’] on his Simple Life record — the same place I heard ‘Back Where I Come From.’  It gets inside and lets you understand everything about life you don’t even realize.  So it makes sense the Grammy people — who’re from all musical genres — would recognize this song and the heart Mac brings… I’m honored to share this with my friend.” ~ Kenny Cheseny

“I wrote and recorded Defying Gravity to touch upon the power of the human spirit.  I had no idea that it would’ve connected in the way that it did.  We saw it night after night on the Escape Together Tour and to now end the year with these nominations is pure magic.” ~ Keith Urban

“I started freaking out and jumping up and down. I honestly never would have predicted this — eight nominations! I’m ecstatic, and blown away and so, so thankful.” ~ Taylor Swift

Billy Currington Establishes “Global South Relief”

December 3rd, 2009

billycurrington

Billy Currington has established an organization titled “Global South Relief,” which will attempt to relieve stress to various Central American countries by delivering supplies to those in need. The first countries to benefit will be Guatemala and Costa Rica. During a recent visit to Central America, Currington became aware of the desperate need for and lack of the most basic necessities and knew that he could make a difference.

“I’ve been so inspired by the people of these countries,” said Currington. “They survive on very little and it serves as a reminder that I am very blessed and can provide assistance. The goal is to make this an annual trip and to reach as many countries as we can in the future to provide these people with some relief.”

In conjunction with Nashville songwriters Brett Jones (“That’s How Country Boys Roll”), Scotty Emerick (“Beer For My Horses”) and Dallas Davidson (“Start A Band”), Currington will play a free show at 5:30pm this Saturday at Sloppy Joe’s in Key West, Florida in order to raise awareness for the effort. Following the event, Currington, Jones, Emerick and Davidson will travel to both countries to deliver the first round of goods.

Click HERE for more information and to view photos and videos from Currington’s previous trips. The Global South Relief Foundation is in development and will soon be able to accept donations.
