As we’ve told you before, every Monday morning we look forward to heading over to CMT.com to read Hazel Smith’s weekly Hot Dish article. Hazel always has a fresh take on all things country music and the underlying message in everything she writes is that no matter what, Hazel is simply a true country music lover.
This week’s article from Hazel was another great one to read as she paid tribute to the thousands and thousands of country music fans who made their way to Nashville for the annual CMA Music Festival earlier this month. Less positive thinkers may have moaned about the masses invading their city, but not Hazel… she reflects the common theme that we heard throughout the week in Nashville, that Music City was happy to welcome the country music fans with open arms. Hazel writes…
Did anybody in Nashville remember to thank the 56,000 guests who came from across the U.S. and around the world to attend the recent CMA Music Festival? Were there large white banners with red lettering that welcomed country music fans to our city? And were there goodbye banners thanking them for coming with the message, “Hope to see you next year”? If not, there should have been.
Even with the sudden storms, fans were royally entertained while sometimes being soaked to the skin. Let me humbly thank each one who came to the festival. I hope you enjoyed our town. And I hope you made it home safe and are already making plans to return in 2010 to see the biggest and best array of talent ever assembled.
Hazel went on to give a great recap of the festival as well as the CMT Awards… you can read the entire article on CMT.com and be sure to check back each Monday morning for your weekly dose of country music at it’s finest!

Trace Adkins had two nominations at last night’s CMT Music Awards for the video to “You’re Gonna Miss This,” his three week No. 1 hit single. The song was included as a bonus track on Trace’s Greatest Hits album, and he admits that the video, and even the single, almost didn’t happen. Trace recently explained “The song was just a bonus track on a greatest-hits album. It was never intended to be a single. So when we put it out as a single the folks at the record label — actually, I probably shouldn’t even tell this, but it’s true — they said `It’s not normally our policy to pay to make a video on the second song off a greatest-hits album.’ I said, `Well, I think the song needs a video,’ so we did it and the budget was incredibly low. We went back to my hometown and everybody in the video is somebody I know, a friend of mine. Everybody in the video lives in my hometown of Serepta, La. We went back there and went to my aunt’s little diner and shot some stuff there. The whole thing was done in my hometown for like $147,” he joked.
The low-budget video clearly struck a chord with fans making it one of the best videos of the year and earning nominations in the ‘Male Video of the Year’ and ‘Video of the Year’ categories. Although Trace didn’t take home either award, he delivered a great performance of the song on the live television broadcast.
