Casey James, who finished third on season 9 of American Idol, is currently in the process of signing a record deal with Sony Nashville. The label (and its imprints) is also home to other American Idol finalists including Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler, and Danny Gokey.
“Country music is a big wide open space for you to do what you want to do if you’re within a certain realm,” Casey tells Yahoo. “They are going to let me play the guitar, they’re going to let me be edgy and rocky and a little bit bluesy, a little bit old school, a little bit new school.”
The L.A. Times is reporting that James first met with Sony back in June.

Danny Gokey has this week’s most added single at country radio, with “I Will Not Say Goodbye” topping the most-added lists for Billboard and Country Aircheck stations quick to show their support for the powerful new ballad.
It’s an exciting week all around for Gokey, who’ll celebrate the 4th of July with a return to his Milwaukee hometown for a headlining performance on the final night of Summerfest. Billed as “The World’s Largest Music Festival,” the 11-day, multi-stage festival will feature Gokey headlining with an opening act close to his heart.
