Earlier this week, it was announced that Carrie Underwood has landed the coveted NBC Sunday Night Football gig, replacing Country superstar Faith Hill.

After the news hit the web, Underwood discussed her new gig with Country Weekly, admitting that while she may be married to a hockey player, “I’m a football girl, totally.”

“Every Sunday, every Monday we were just all about football, so for me to be a part of Sunday Night Football is going to make it even more fun, make it even more special,” she told the magazine.

She also hinted that she’s going to put her own twist on the theme song, “Waiting All Day For Sunday Night,” which is a play off of the Joan Jett classic “I Hate Myself for Loving You.”

“It’s the same general song and lyrics, but we definitely have been working on putting my spin on it,” she revealed. “It’s gonna look different, it’s gonna sound different. It’s gonna be me.”

Hill, who stepped down from the gig earlier this year, sang the theme song for six consecutive years. She took to Twitter to congratulate Underwood on her new role.

“Congrats to Carrie!!” Hill wrote. “An awesome choice by the guys at NBC/SNF. She’ll rock it!!”

Carrie quickly responded saying, “Thanks! I’ve got some beautiful shoes to fill!”

Underwood is set to make her Sunday Night Football debut on Sunday, September 8.
