Jake Owen Takes ‘Big, Big Step’ With New Single, ‘What We Ain’t Got’
After topping the charts with the summer anthem “Beachin’,” Jake Owen is ready to show fans a different, deeper side of himself with his new single.
The Florida native is set to release the powerful ballad “What We Ain’t Got” to country radio soon.
“It’s a big, big step for me to put out a song that’s a ballad that has a lot of meaning behind it,” he tells Radio.com. “It’s a deep song that deals on a lot of levels with everyone looking at their own life. We all work so hard day to day, and we want more and more and more. This is a world of wanting more. It’s a song about looking at where you are and appreciating what you have, ’cause once it’s gone we all want what we don’t have.”
He also recognizes that a lot of people can relate the the lyrics, even himself. “I am really happy with where I am in my life, with a wife and a little 2-year-old girl and a great career and a headline tour. But I still find every day I wake up I find things that I want more.”
Owen believes this could be a turning point in his career and is proud to release a song with such a powerful meaning. “That’s what country music was based on, great songs,” he says.
“What We Ain’t Got,” which is featured on Owen’s latest album, Days Of Gold, was written by Travis Meadows and Travis Jerome Goff.
