Pistol Annies to be Featured on ‘The Hunger Games’ Soundtrack?
On Thursday (12/22), Taylor Swift surprised fans with a new song, “Safe and Sound,” a collaboration with The Civil Wars. The track, which hit No.1 on iTunes after its release, will be featured on the soundtrack of the forthcoming movie The Hunger Games.
Over the weekend, Lionsgate and Universal Republic Records revealed that the companion album will also include songs from Arcade Fire and the Decemberists, but Swift and the Civil Wars may not be country music’s only connection to the highly anticipated soundtrack.
Back in October, Pistol Annies – Miranda Lambert, Angaleena Presley and Ashley Monroe – went in the studio with famed producer T Bone Burnett. Burnett, who produced the GRAMMY-winning soundtrack for O Brother Where Art Though?, happens to be the music producer for The Hunger Games.
The Annies never revealed what project they were working on, but took time to share their excitement on Twitter. “@PistolAnnies In the studio with T-Bone,” Presley shared on October 25. “Chills, chills, and more chills. Amazing experience.” The day after Presley Tweeted, someone posted, “What an unbelievable experience. Thank you T-Bone” from Pistol Annies’ official Twitter page.
In addition, Lambert recently dropped a hint about a possible connection to the soundtrack during an interview with Shape magazine.
“I just finished reading The Hunger Games,” Lambert said. “I loved it so much, I wrote a song that I’m hoping will be on the movie’s soundtrack. Cross your fingers for me!”
Could Pistol Annies top secret session with Burnett have been for The Hunger Games? We sure hope so!
The Hunger Games, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth hit theaters March 23. The soundtrack is expected to be released early next year, in advance of the film.
