Randy Travis Seeks Treatment for Alcohol Abuse

By:

After making a pledge of sobriety late last year, country hitmaker Randy Travis is currently seeking professional help from an alcohol treatment facility.

The singer’s attorney Larry Friedman revealed the news during a recent interview with TMZ. According to Friedman, Travis will continue working and recording new music on his path to sobriety. In fact, he says the “Forever and Ever, Amen” singer plans to release two albums by the end of 2013.

The news comes after a tumultuous 2012 for the Grand Ole Opry Member; He was arrested for public intoxication in February, picked up for suspicion of a DWI in August and cited for assault later that month.

Earlier this month, Travis reached a plea deal on the misdemeanor assault case he was facing. According to reports, the singer will serve 90 days deferred adjudication, which means that if he follows all procedures set forth in the agreement, he will avoid a formal conviction or have the case dismissed altogether.

As for his other legal troubles, Grayson County Texas prosecutors officially filed a DWI charge against him in early January. The change is punishable by a maximum two-year jail sentence and a $4,000 fine. At the time the charge was filed, Friedman updated fans on the situation saying, “Randy has a lot of respect for law enforcement in Grayson. He’s cooperating fully. He recognizes his situation and he is tending to his personal matters. And we will decide between now and the end of the month whether he pleads not guilty or agrees to another plea that involves rehabilitation.”

Friedman also assured fans that his client was on the mend.

“He has begun a personal revitalization program. He’s on a three-hour-a-day exercise regimen with new diet and exercise. He’s completely off of alcohol. He has recorded 31 new songs for an album that will be released in April. And he’s paying a lot of attention to his personal matters,” he said. “We expect 2013 to be an extraordinary year for him. We’re also looking at a couple of movie scripts for him as well.”

We’re glad to hear Randy Travis is seeking the help he needs. We wish him the best!
