‘The Sound of Music,’ Starring Carrie Underwood, To Premiere December 5
As you know, Carrie Underwood will take on the role of Maria von Trapp in the live television adaptation of the iconic musical “The Sound of Music” later this year. Earlier this week, NBC finally revealed the much-anticipated premiere date for the live telecast.
The three-hour broadcast is set to premiere on NBC December 5, 2013.
When Underwood’s role was announced late last year, Robert Greenblatt, Chairman of NBC Entertainment, expressed how thrilled they were to have the star on board. “Speaking for everyone at NBC, we couldn’t be happier to have the gifted Carrie Underwood take up the mantle of the great Maria von Trapp,” said Greenblatt. “She was an iconic woman who will now be played by an iconic artist.”
Equally as excited is Julie Andrews, who played Maria in the original film adaptation, saying she would love to meet the Country superstar. “No, I don’t know her, and I would love to know her,” Andrews said. “And maybe I will.”
